"IT'S NOT JUST CAUSE I'M A ROOKIE. I'M A PLAYER"
(Angel Reese at her Press Conference wbbclips)
Angel Reese is not having a smooth transition into the WNBA. Her press conference to welcome her to The Chicago Sky Basketball team was luke warm while her counterpart Caitlin Clarke reception was red carpet door to door service. To top it off, Reese almost gets her head chopped off with a flagrant foul by Alyssa Thomas of the "Suns" in their game on 5.25.24.
A reporter asked Angel Reese if she thought Alyssa Thomas was sending her a message as a rookie coming into the WNBA. Angel's response was nothing but boss talk. "It's not just cause I'm a rookie. I'm a player", as if to say I'm a competitor. She goes on to tell the reporter not to believe that players are going to bow down to her because she's new. Reese understands that she has to earn that spot.
However, we cant overshadow that Reese is not being made to look like the star she is. It seems as though she is being humbled to not over shadow anyone else.
(Side Note) If you Google "Female basketball player, Caitlin is number one in the algorithm"
Angel Reese Honors include NCAA Tournament Most Outstandings Player (2023), unanimous First Team All-American (2023), AP and USBWA All-American (2023), AP Third Team All-American (2022), First Team All-SEC (2023), First Team All-Big Ten (2022), Big Ten Conference All-Freshman Team (2021), among others. First off, this is black essence. Females got game and we need to recognize that women playing basketball only keeps elevating. Thanks to women like Dawn Staley. Angel Reese is still growing but we need to support her growth as well as other women basketball players representing Women's Basketball.
